Teachers from Fresno to Merced County ask for help as first day of school approaches
Teachers are preparing their classrooms as students and families gear up to return to Central Valley schools in the coming days and weeks.
And some teachers are asking for help once again.
Teachers come out of their own pockets every year to supply their classrooms with the things their students need and things to enhance the teaching and learning environment.
Local educators have started using the online fundraising platform GoFundMe to garner donations for their classrooms, like first-year teacher Jaycee Isaacson from Atwater and Fresno’s Aaron Pfitzer, a fifth grade teacher.
Pfitzer is in his fourth year teaching fifth grade, according to GoFundMe, and would use the donations for classroom supplies, curriculum and programs not provided by the school or district, as well as classroom decorations, snacks, drinks, sports equipment and board, card or math games.
Educators can also request donations for classroom initiatives.
Kayle Hamilton from Copperopolis in Calaveras County plans to stock up her classroom library with books for K-12 students.
“We love to have lots of books to encourage ALL students to read!” the GoFundMe said. “I also hope to be able to send each kid home with a book to kick off the school year.”
