Merced College plans events focused on four-year schools
Merced College is planning two events to educate students getting ready to head to a four-year school.
Transfer Day and College Night are meant to give local students an opportunity to meet with representatives from the University of California and California State University systems, as well as independent and private colleges.
Transfer Day, which is aimed at college students, is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 3 in the college’s main quad. College Night, designed for high school students, is the same day from 5:30 to 9 p.m. in the college’s gymnasium.
“It’s never too early in the process to begin planning for transfer to a university,” Dean of Student Services Angela Tos said in a news release. “In fact, the earlier a student starts his or her preparation, the smoother the transition will be.”
In each event, representatives from colleges and universities will have informational brochures and can answer questions about admission requirements.

in a news release“We want to give our local students every opportunity to explore their options, to have (their) questions answered and to be encouraged by the range of universities available to them,” transfer counselor Greg Soto said in the release.
UC system schools expected at the events include the campuses from Merced, Davis, San Diego, Los Angeles and Santa Barbara. Schools expected from the CSU system include Chico, Fresno, Sacramento, Humboldt, Monterey Bay and Stanislaus.
Independent and private colleges include Fresno Pacific, Brandman University, University of the Pacific, Grand Canyon University and DeVry University.
Soto said he expects about 2,000 students will take part in Transfer Day and College Night.
“It’s really an important event,” he said. “Students can find out information about their major area of study, financial aid, students housing, campus activities and clubs, the local community and anything else they want to know.”
A special session on financial aid will be held in the college’s theater from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. the same day.
