El Capitan chapter honored by Merced mayor during National FFA Week
Merced Mayor Matthew Serratto recognized the El Capitan High FFA chapter recently.
El Capitan High School’s FFA chapter received a mayoral proclamation in honor of National FFA Week, a celebration organized by the national organization to promote agricultural education and student leadership.
The mayor presented a proclamation to the group in front of the school campus, along with the school’s agriculture teachers, FFA chapter officers and students.
National FFA Week was held Feb. 21-28.
El Capitan FFA hosted a full week of activities to engage students and promote agriculture across campus, according to a news release from Khyle Aphay, a student and FFA member.
The week included themed dress-up days and interactive lunch activities, including a petting zoo, teacher lunch, butter-making and a petting zoo.
“FFA and agricultural education serve a vital purpose,” the mayor said. “They provide strong educational experiences for students, not only academically, but also in character building and leadership development. I am always impressed by the FFA culture and the quality of the students. It gives a lot of hope for the future.”
