Merced County library invites teachers, public to event. Get free books

The Gustine Traveling Library is holding a kickoff event Saturday for its new R.E.A.D. campaign, and Merced County teachers and the public are invited to attend.

The event is from noon to 5 p.m. at the library headquarters, 417 Fifth St. in Gustine. Educators, families, community partners and literacy supporters are invited to attend the event, which is focused on promoting youth literacy across Merced County and the Central Valley.

The library will give free books to educators from across the Central Valley to help support their classrooms and students. Posters to promote reading will also be available.

Teachers who attend will be eligible to win tickets to a San Francisco Giants game. The packages include: Four tickets to the Anime Night game, four tickets to Harry Potter Night and four tickets to Fourth Wing Night.

“We are excited to celebrate literacy and show some love to the amazing teachers who do so much for our students and community,” the library said in an email.

The Gustine Traveling Library was established in 2017 by Zachery Ramos, according to gustinetravelinglibrary.my.canva.site. It distributes free books and school supplies to kids in underprivileged communities. It also provides food distributions for families in need.

The Gustine Traveling Library has distriburted 350,000 books since 2017.
