Merced College will provide 200 free copies of the U.S. Constitution during the national observance of Constitution Day next week.

The libraries on the Merced and Los Banos campuses plan to host displays and provide resources related to the event on Sept. 17.

Students at the Los Banos campus can enter a “Constitution Day Quiz” with winners earning gift cards. U.S. Constitution Day and Citizenship Day is observed each year to commemorate the signing of the Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787.

The observance of Constitution Day has changed through the decades. Most recently, the observance requires every federal agency to provide each employee with educational and training materials concerning the Constitution, according to a news release from the college.

Each educational institution that receives federal funds is also supposed to hold a program for students.
