Stroming Scholarships available for Mariposa graduates

Mariposa High School graduates who attend Merced College may apply for $1,000 scholarships honoring Mathilde K. Stroming, a longtime community leader.

To be eligible for the awards, students must qualify for the California Community Colleges Board of Governors Fee Waiver program, which is based on family income, Merced College said in a news release Tuesday. They also must have earned 24 degree-applicable units.

The scholarships honor Stroming, a longtime resident of Mariposa, owner of Stroming Machinery and former manager of the Mariposa County Fairgrounds. Stroming, better known as “Tillie,” died in 2009 at the age of 90.

Students interested in applying for the scholarships should contact the Merced College Foundation at 209-381-6470 or the Scholarship Office at 209-384-6220.
