Merced College calls for applicants for classes
Merced College last week announced an upcoming communications class and a call for summertime proposals for children’s classes.
The Greater Merced Chamber of Commerce, with help from Merced College’s Customer Service Academy, plans a two-day “Communication in the Workplace” workshop from 8 a.m. to noon on Thursday and Jan. 29.
Another session of workshops is planned the same days from 1 to 5 p.m.
The workshop is $23, worth a half-unit of college credit and covers communication skills.
The workshop is the first in a series of classes in the Customer Service Academy to be offered at the Business Resource Center, 630 W. 19th St. in Merced.

College for Kids
One of Merced College’s most popular programs, College for Kids, is accepting proposals from instructors for the 2015 summer program.
College for Kids is planned from mid-June to late July. Most classes are two weeks long and can be offered multiple times during the summer.
Arranged in three sessions, the classes and programs offered cover an array of subjects. The program is designed for students going into the fourth through eighth grades.
Merced College’s Community Services Office is looking for proposals from instructors interested in teaching a College for Kids class.
Instructors are needed for classes like aquatics, “mad science,” archery, marine biology, math basics, art, mosaics, baby sitting, music, ceramics, robotics, computers, rock climbing, cooking, sewing, crafts, space exploration, crime scene investigation, tennis, dance, volleyball, fitness boot camp, youth theater and others.
The application form is at www.mercedcommunityservices.com. The deadline to submit proposals is Jan. 30.
