Merced College honors retiring staff members

Seven staff members from Merced College who are retiring were honored for their dedication and time spent at the college.

An early childhood education professor, Sue Chappell; an agricultural professor, Jaime Farao; nursing professor Rox Ann Sparks; and English professor Tony White all were honored for their service to the school.

Director for Childhood Development Marilyn Scorby and the director for EOP&S, Mario Cardova, also are retiring and were honored alongside the four professors. Joe Nava worked in maintenance and mechanics at the college and was honored for his service to the school as well.

“Their many years of service to the college and to our students has been invaluable, and we wish each of them well as they leave Merced College for the joys of a well-earned retirement,” Interim President Dr. Susan Walsh said in a statement.

Walsh also honored a music professor, Curtis Nelson, for his 19 years leading the chorale, although he will continue to teach his regular classes.

“The college is seeking a new director for the noncredit chorale class so that this vital community musical experience can continue,” Walsh said.

The college is searching for replacements to fill these positions.
