UC Merced show opens ticket sales to general public

A Saturday concert called Cowchella, unlike many special entertainment events at UC Merced, will be open to the general public.

A light-hearted jab at Merced’s agriculture-heavy economy, the annual spring concert Cowchella plays on the name of the massive southern California music festival Coachella.

UC Merced’s concert is headlined by Andy Grammer, a singer-songwriter best known for “Keep Your Head Up,” a 2011 pop rock song that reached No. 53 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.

The Campus Activities Board is putting on the show, which will also feature Huntington Beach pop band Hellogoodbye, Los Angeles-based pop rock band Almost Classy and Canadian country singer Dallas Smith.

The show is free for UC Merced undergraduate students, assuming they pick up tickets from the Office of Student Life. Tickets are $20 for other members of the campus community, and $40 for the general public.

Tickets are only available for sale at the gate, from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Only cash will be accepted.

The music begins at 6 p.m. in The Bowl, the large grassy amphitheater in the middle of campus, 5200 N. Lake Road.
