Seattle shooting kills 1, injures others, with at least 1 suspect at large, police say

Seattle police said a shooting in the Washington city on Wednesday wounded multiple people, with local TV stations reporting one death.

The suspect has fled, and police are searching for him,” Seattle police wrote on Twitter. “Officers and medics are providing first aid to the injured.”

Police said one person died in the shooting, Q13 FOX reported. Seven people were injured and taken to Harborview Medical Center, according to KIRO, including “a 55-year-old woman in critical condition; a 9-year-old boy in serious condition; a 35-year-old man in stable condition; a 21-year-old man in stable condition; and a 34-year-old man in stable condition.”

KOMO described the area where the shooting occurred around 5 p.m. as near a McDonald’s restaurant in “the heart of downtown Seattle.”

One of those injured was a child, and it was the second shooting nearby in a day, according to KOMO, which reported that “at least one suspect, and possibly a second one, were being sought in connection with the mass shooting.”

Seattle police asked anyone with information on the shooting — or on the suspect or suspects — to call their tip line.

Those in the area described chaos as gunshots were heard, The Seattle Times reported.

“Everyone in the coffee shop went down on the ground, hiding behind tables,” said Alex Bennett, who lives nearby and was getting coffee at the time, according to The Seattle Times. “The security guard locked the door.”

Bennett said she and a security guard eventually helped a man who had been shot, pressing down on the wound on his leg.

“He was freaking out and kept saying, ‘I don’t want to die, I don’t want to die,’” she said, per The Seattle Times.

Douglas Converse, 60, said he was going into a Seattle light rail station — just blocks from the city’s Pike Place Market — when a dozen or so gunshots rang out and he “saw at least two people fall to the ground,” The New York Times reported.

“It’s really unusual,” Converse said, noting that there had been other shootings in the area in the last day, according to The New York Times.
