5 things to know about CeeDee Lamb, the No. 17 overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft

Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, a four-star recruit out of Foster High School in Richmond, Texas, spent three years at Oklahoma and is considered one of the best wide receiver prospects in this 2020 draft class.

At the NFL combine, Lamb recorded a 4.5 40-yard dash and had a 34.5-inch vertical jump.

Here are five things to know about CeeDee Lamb, who was selected with the No. 17 pick by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2020 NFL Draft on Thursday night:

1. It’s all in a name. His nickname “CeeDee” stands for “Cedarian.” At the NFL combine, he told a story about the origin of the nickname: After telling his pee-wee football coach his first name, the coach said that he should come up with a nickname by the end of practice. Coach ended up calling him “CeeDee” while the kids were running sprints and the name stuck.

2. He has loads of Sooners accomplishments. Lamb ranks first at Oklahoma with 24 career catches of 40 yards or more and with six career games of 160 receiving yards or more. He was second with 32 receiving touchdowns, third with 3,292 career receiving yards. He also has 14-career 100-yard receiving games.

3. During his senior year, Lamb was a consensus All-American, a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award, and a finalist for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award. He had 62 receptions for 1,327 receiving yards with 14 touchdowns.

4. He believed he should have been the No. 1 wide receiver off the board and stated so during an interview with CBS Sports HQ with Amanda Guerra. “Just my production and what I’ve done with the ball, the ability to break tackles, make plays, just kind of what I base my game around,” he said, according to 24/7 Sports.

5. He really wanted to meet NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. He expressed his feelings on how the COVID-19 pandemic impacted the NFL draft and how he felt about the event being virtual instead of in front of the Bellagio in Las Vegas. “Yeah, it was very disappointing, for one not meeting Roger Goodell, for sure but just kind of experiencing physically the whole draft and like the red carpet, the pictures, interviews, just kind of having that all physically there, and then for us to not be there.,” he told Guerra, according to 247 Sports.
