Hurricane Chris, rapper of ‘A Bay Bay’ fame, charged with murder in Louisiana, cops say
A rapper who enjoyed national success in the late 2000s is accused of a Louisiana murder, according to Shreveport police.
Christopher Dooley, also known as Hurricane Chris, allegedly shot a man multiple times outside a Texaco gas station after the the man tried to steal Dooley’s vehicle, according to Shreveport police.
Dooley, whose 2007 song “Ay Bay Bay” was one of the top charted songs of the year, said his shooting was an act of self-defense over the vehicle, police said. Surveillance footage showed “Dooley did not act in self-defense,” according to police.
The car did not belong to Dooley and it was reported stolen from Texas, police said in a press release.
The victim in the shooting, whose identity has not been released, died at Ochsner’s LSU Health Hospital, police said.
Dooley has been charged with second-degree murder and illegal possession of stolen things. He posted bail Sunday and was released from jail, according to KSLA.
“Ay Bay Bay” peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2007 and spent several months on the chart.
He performed one of his follow-up songs, “Halle Berry,” from the floor of the Louisiana legislature in 2009, according to The Advocate.
After his debut album, “51/50 Ratchet,” in 2007, he released three additional albums: “Unleashed” in 2009, “Louisianimal 2” in 2010” and “King Cane” in 2017. He has collaborated with Ty Dolla $Ign, Lil Boosie and Mario in his career.
