Woman escapes as ex-boyfriend starts shooting at her and her date, Utah officials say
A man fired his gun at his ex-girlfriend and her date multiple times after confronting the two in Utah, multiple news outlets reported.
Aaron Gaitan, 36, was arrested on multiple charges including first-degree attempted murder, according to the Layton Police Department and the Davis County Sheriff’s Office.
Gaitan confronted his ex-girlfriend and her date on Tuesday while they were sitting in a truck in Layton, according to a probable cause statement obtained by the Standard-Examiner.
He threatened to kill them, then struck the 35-year-old man and the woman with his handgun, KSTU reported.
As the man tried to drive off in the truck, Gaitan fired his weapon three times, hitting the man on his thigh, KUTV reported.
Gaitan fled the scene and was arrested the following day at a trailer in Clinton, KSTU reported.
The woman got out of the truck before Gaitan fired his gun and was not hit, the news outlet reported. She was not treated for injuries.
But her date was taken to a hospital and later released, according to Layton police.
Gaitan is being held without bail at Davis County Jail.
