Teen killed after truck strikes bus full of middle schoolers, Mississippi cops say
A teenager died in a collision with a school bus early Wednesday morning, according to Mississippi police.
Deputies said a West Jones High School senior was behind the wheel of a pickup truck that crashed into a bus carrying at least 11 middle school students, WDAM reported. The accident occurred on Highway 84 around 7 a.m.
The teen driver was killed, the Jones County Sheriff’s Office confirmed. No students on the bus were injured.
Police are withholding the student’s name until family members are notified.
“Our hearts are heavy at the Jones County Sheriff’s Department as we grieve with the family and friends of the West Jones High School student tragically killed in a vehicle crash this morning,” the sheriff’s department wrote on Facebook. “May God provide comfort and a peace beyond understanding to all who have been affected.”
Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
Jones County is about 30 miles northeast of Hattiesburg.
