Two Long Beach, California, police officers accused of falsifying reports have been arrested, the department says.

Two California police officers are on leave after being arrested on suspicion of falsifying their official reports, authorities said.

The two Long Beach officers surrendered Friday, Dec. 3, after arrest warrants were issued in the case, the Long Beach Police Department reported in a news release.

Officers Dedier Reyes and David Salcedo face charges including filing a false police report and filing a false government document. Reyes also faces a charge of perjury. Their bail was set at $2 and $1, respectively, police said.

Reyes is a 16-year officer, while Salcedo is a 5-year officer. Both have been suspended pending the outcome of an internal investigation, the release said.

The police began an investigation after discovering a discrepancy between the officers’ reports and security camera footage in a February 2018 firearms arrest, the release said.

No charges were filed against the person arrested, who was released, police said.

In January 2019, investigators submitted their findings to the district attorney’s office for review.

“We have high standards and expectations of every employee,” Chief Robert Luna said in the release. “When the actions of an individual employee erode the values of our organization, and the public trust all of us have worked so hard to cultivate, we all must be held accountable.”

Investigators are now reviewing other reports filed by the two officers, the release said.
