One February day in 2019, Katrina Skelton and her husband’s beloved rescue dog Daisy managed to get loose from their home in Texas.

Time went by without news about Daisy, but Skelton says she always believed Daisy would take care of herself, wherever she was. She continued checking the microchip website where Daisy was registered, but had no luck.

“She was gentle, loving, and patient,” Skelton wrote on Facebook. “She was with us through 2 pregnancies, 2 toddlers and 3 different homes. We were heartbroken when we lost her.”

The family didn’t believe they would ever see their “first baby” ever again. But Skelton hoped Daisy had found a loving home, even if it wasn’t with them in Sugar Land, a Houston suburb.

Earlier this month, some 1,200 miles away in Indiana, a different family received a visitor when a stray dog wandered onto their property, looking for shelter. The family took her to the vet, and discovered she was microchipped, and had a home.

Skelton got the call on Jan. 4. The Indiana family had found her dog, safe and sound, after years of praying.

“We are blown away,” Skelton wrote on Facebook, where she documented Daisy’s return. “We have hoped and prayed for the return of Daisy for 3 years. Call us crazy, but this weekend we will be making a 30+ hour drive from Texas to Indiana and then back to Texas to reunite with our girl.”

Skelton reported that Daisy seemed healthy, albeit a little lost given she was a thousand miles away from home.

Three years and a 17-hour drive up north later, Skelton and her husband, Mark, are finally reunited with their first born.

“Daisy was a little overwhelmed and confused at first! She was in an unfamiliar place and there were a few extra people she didn’t know when she arrived,” she wrote. “Once the chaos settled and she got comfortable, she started to really recognize who we were! Mark took his hat off, and it was like a light clicked.”

Daisy is back home now, where the temperature is warmer and the family more familiar...

“Tonight, Daisy will finally be home after 3 years away,” Skelton wrote. “It’s completely surreal. I know Jackson and Jonah are really looking forward to seeing Daisy.”
