Passenger tries to open emergency exit on Delta flight, feds say. He’s been charged
A 32-year-old man tried to open the emergency exit door on a Delta Air Lines flight, federal officials said.
Michael Brandon Demarre was charged with threatening to interfere and interfering with a flight crew and attendants, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the District of Oregon said in a news release on Feb. 14.
An attorney for Demarre did not immediately respond to McClatchy News’ request for comment.
Demarre is accused of removing the plastic covering over the emergency exit door and “forcefully” pulling the handle mid-air on a Feb. 11 flight from Salt Lake City to Portland, Oregon, the news release states.
The man was told to stop pulling on the door handle, and he listened to the flight attendant, prosecutors said in the release.
He was detained in Portland, where he told officers he tried to open the exit door so other passengers would record him “sharing his personal views,” prosecutors said.
