80-year-old dies after deputy slams into her car while responding to call, SC cops say
An 80-year-old woman died after a South Carolina deputy slammed into her car, officials said.
The deputy was responding to an emergency when the crash happened on Sunday, April 3, according to the Anderson County Coroner’s Office.
The S.C. Highway Patrol in a news release said the patrol car was going east on S.C. Highway 28 Bypass when it hit a Nissan that was pulling onto the road.
The Nissan driver — identified as 80-year-old Sarah Parson — was flown to Prisma Health medical center in Greenville. She later died of “multiple traumatic injuries secondary to blunt force trauma,” the coroner’s office said in a news release.
The Anderson County deputy was also hurt and taken to a hospital, officials said.
The incident was reported at about 3:30 p.m. near a Walmart and roughly 30 miles southwest of Greenville.
The deputy had been heading to an armed robbery call at the time of the deadly crash, the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. As of April 3, the coroner’s office and state troopers were still investigating the incident.
