Woman chasing her escaped dogs on interstate is killed by vehicle, Florida cops say
A woman was fatally hit by a vehicle while chasing her dogs on a highway in Florida, officials told news outlets.
The woman was driving south on Interstate 95 near Edgewater just after 6 a.m. Saturday, May 7, when she got tired and pulled over onto the right shoulder to switch places with her passenger, officials with Florida Highway Patrol told The Daytona Beach News-Journal.
As they were switching seats, the two dogs in the vehicle escaped and ran onto the highway, troopers told FOX 35.
The woman chased after them and was hit by a van, troopers said, according to The Daytona Beach News-Journal.
Troopers said the woman, a 40-year-old from Mims, died at the scene, WKMG reported.
The driver of the van, a 33-year-old man from Orange City, was not hurt, and the dogs were returned to the vehicle unharmed, troopers said, according to the outlet.
The incident remains under investigation, FOX 35 reported, and no other information, including the name of the woman, was released as of Sunday, May 8.
Edgewater is about 60 miles northeast of Orlando.
