Divorce put ‘easygoing’ dog in the shelter. Now Cash is ‘confused and unsure’

By no fault of his own, a loyal dog has found himself asking for a second chance of life in one Indiana shelter.

Cash is a selective dog who needs to ease into trust, and he has a good reason.

“Cash had a home. A family. A life he loved,” the Humane Society for Hamilton County in Fishers said in an April 26 Facebook post.

“For five years, this 8-year-old pointer mix was a loyal companion. But when divorce shattered the only world he knew, Cash found himself starting over, confused and unsure where he belonged.

“Now this sweet, 50-pound boy is searching for his second chance, a stable, loving home where he can feel safe again.”

Words like “well-mannered” and “easygoing-non-destructive” are used to describe the lonely guy, his profile says, which would make him an excellent addition to any home — especially since he’s good around younger children.

“Cash is housebroken, crate-trained (though he hasn’t needed one recently), and incredibly well-mannered when left alone,” the shelter said. “He’s interacted well with toddlers and young kids in the past. In the home, he’s easygoing and calm, a loyal companion who simply wants to be near his people.”

Though a fair warning to potential owners — the big guy is a puller when on a leash at times.

“Out on walks, Cash’s excitement shows, especially when other dogs are around. He’s selective with dog friends and prefers slow, careful introductions,” the shelter says. “Dog parks aren’t his thing, but a peaceful backyard or structured adventures with his favorite humans would be his dream.”

Fishers is about a 20-mile drive northeast from downtown Indianapolis.
