Merced state senator named chair of committee on agriculture
State Sen. Anna Caballero, D-Merced, has been named to a key post for the 2025-26 session, her office announced in a news release this week.
Caballero, 70, who represents the 14th State Senate district, has been named Chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture.
The 14th district includes Merced, Madera and Fresno Counties.
Caballero said in the news release that her new role provides an important opportunity to review bills and advance policies that support California’s agricultural industry, which is central to her district and the state’s economy.
“Agriculture is the backbone of my district and our State,” Caballero said in the news release. “As Chair of the Committee on Agriculture, I will work to address critical issues that affect rural communities like water quality and scarcity, waste, recycling, farmworker retraining, protecting working natural lands and climate change. I look forward to solutions that support our farmers, farmworkers, and the future of California agriculture.”
