Twenty-three candidates for United States Senator are on the ballot in California.
Eight of them are on the ballot twice. Those candidates are also running to finish the last two months of the current term. So make a selection in both races.
The California primary is June 7. The top two vote-getters in each race, regardless of party, will advance to the general election on Nov. 8.
The winner of the special election for U.S. Senate will assume office right after Nov. 8.
The winner of the general election will take over in January 2023. The full term lasts six years.
Incumbent Sen. Alex Padilla, a Democrat appointed by Gov. Gavin Newsom to fill Vice President Kamala Harris’ vacated Senate seat, is heavily favored to win both the special and general elections.
