What precautions, if any, should California continue to take to cope with COVID-19 and its variants?
When I’m governor, I will balance the safety of our residents with the economic impact of a shutdown. States like Texas and Florida did it well because their governors made balanced decisions based upon science rather than who wrote them the biggest campaign check. They did a great job of listening to the science without destroying lives. I would do the same and make sure we are encouraging vaccination, but not mandating it.
California provided cash support to individuals and small businesses during the pandemic. To what extent should that assistance continue?
Californians and businesses didn’t need to suffer in the first place.
We need to ensure the people of California keep more of their hard-earned money. Newsom continues to use taxpayer money to curry favor with voters, trying to buy his way through this election with your money.
We need to evaluate every dollar spent by our state government to assess whether it is providing the return on investment that our people deserve. We need to invest in long-term wildfire prevention and a more modern power grid. We need to fix our aging infrastructure, tackle homelessness, and make sure we help our children get back the education (they lost). That all has to come from a re-prioritization of spending and a change in how we do business. The status quo in Sacramento will never evaluate themselves so California needs an outsider.
What more would you do to address California’s housing crisis?
Government has literally caused most of this problem by over taxing and over-regulating it’s people. We need to immediately eliminate regulations that are preventing developers from building affordable, new units and we need to change the tax code to make it less expensive to build new units.
The government should encourage faith-based and non-profit entities to be part of the solution, rather than make it nearly impossible for them to do what they do best, help people.
And we need to help Californians get back to work so people have a steady paycheck and the confidence to buy a home or sign a new lease.
What should California do to build up its middle class?
I would be governor to all Californians and the middle class in the backbone of our state.
We also need to focus on making California a safe place. A safe California means our middle class can thrive, along with everyone else. Crime is out of control in our state. We’ve seen all the brazen smash and grabs in retail stores and the violent attacks in broad daylight. This only happens because criminals believe they won’t be punished for their actions. We need to fully fund the police and our law enforcement officials. They need the tools to do their jobs properly and leaders should support them in every way. Californians should also know that this state is home to some of the most liberal district attorneys in the nation. We have DA’s like George Gascon in Los Angeles who are letting criminals go without punishment while handcuffing our law enforcement officials from doing their jobs.
Would you propose any new policies to address climate change?
We need to address the issue of climate change and alternative energy, but not at the expense of businesses and everyday Californians. We can’t afford to lose any energy sources in this state. Instead, we should be talking about solution to the energy crisis facing this state.
We should be talking about solutions to our broken power grids – they are out of date and we’ve become accustomed to rolling blackouts because that is what Gavin Newsom and Gray Davis told us. They told us to get used to it. That doesn’t mean it’s ok.
Out of control wildfires have also decimated our environment. Three years ago, I’m watching ten foot flames all around my house, and almost lost everything I had. The reason my house made it is because I had 75 feet of brush clearance. This is why forest management is extremely important. But the extreme climate activists and Sacramento special interests won’t even let you discuss forest management.
We have to focus on prevention because it will save lives, save us billions in the long run, and help preserve the environment.
What should California do in the long term to address wildfire and drought conditions?
Just a few years ago my house was surrounded by wildfires and I almost lost everything I had. It’s not something I ever want to relive and it’s something I hope no Californian ever has to face. We have to focus on making sure areas susceptible to these fires are cleared of brush. We also need to take a look at our environmental laws to ensure they’re not interfering with our ability to take preventative measures.
