Some Old Spice and Secret deodorants are recalled. Here’s what you need to know
Procter & Gamble Co. announced it is recalling specific aerosol antiperspirants and sprays from the Old Spice and Secret lines due to the detection of benzene.
The U.S. Food and Drug administration classifies benzene as a human carcinogen that can cause exposure through inhalation, orally and through the skin. It can cause leukemia, blood and bone marrow cancer and blood disorders.
In announcing the recall, Procter & Gamble said there have been no reports of adverse reactions due to the products and the action is being done “out of an abundance of caution.”
The company has asked stores to remove these affected deodorants and is asking customers across the country who have purchased them to discard them.
Old Spice and Secret will be offering refunds. You can find out more information about reimbursements on their respective company websites or by calling the consumer care team at 888-339-7689 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern time, Monday through Friday.
