Here’s why mini waffle cones have been recalled in 38 states and Washington, D.C.

An allergic reaction alerted Hammond Candies of a possibly deadly problem and triggered a recall of Hammond’s Dark Chocolate Filled Mini Waffle Cones in 38 states and Washington, D.C.

After the Denver-based company heard of the allergic reaction, Hammond’s recall notice states, “the product was tested and found to contain more than trace amounts of milk proteins, which is not indicated on the packaging. The firm’s investigation into the cause is ongoing.”

With milk present as an allergen not listed in the ingredients section, which people with food allergies check diligently, the recall notice says, “People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume” the waffle cones in the recalled lot.
