Listeria recall of waffles sold at Publix, Walmart, Kroger, Food Lion and other chains

A week after a gargantuan recall of meat and poultry products after listeria was found, another massive recall hits the store brands of leading grocery sellers not just in the United States — but Canada, too.

This recall yanks frozen waffles from home freezers and stores such as Walmart, Target, Publix, Kroger, Food Lion, H-E-B, Winn-Dixie, Aldi and several other major grocers.

Recalling company and waffle maker TreeHouse Foods says “routine testing at the manufacturing facility” found the listeria.

With its FDA-posted recall notice, TreeHouse posted a product list that lists the lot code and best by date for each product recalled. If you have any of the recalled waffles, return them to the store for a full refund. If you have questions, call TreeHouse at 800-596-2903, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Eastern time.

Below is a list of brands included in the recall with store brands listed by name with their stores. Check the TreeHouse list for the specific products as most brands have several varieties.

What is listeria?

Listeria is a foodborne illness that infects about 1,600 people in the United States each year, about 260 of which die, according to the CDC. Adults over 65, children under 5 and anyone with a damaged immune system are the most vulnerable to the worst of listeria’s possible effects. Pregnant women can suffer miscarriages and stillbirths. Most people deal with fever, headaches, stomachaches, loss of balance and sometimes seizures.
