488,000 power banks sold only on Amazon have been recalled. Some ignited and burned users
Power banks should power up devices, not burn up themselves or burn users. That’s why Charmast recalled about 488,000 power banks it sold exclusively through Amazon.
The specific problem, as the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recall notice explains: “The lithium-ion battery in the recalled power banks can overheat and ignite, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers.”
And this problem can and has happened, at least 44 times. That’s the number of reports Charmast has received of the power banks “expanding, igniting, melting, overheating or smoking, including four reports of consumers receiving burns or blisters.”
The recalled power banks are model No. W1056 and came in white, black, green, blue, pink and mint colors. You could buy them on Amazon.com from December 2018 through this September.
Charmast wants customers to stop using the power banks and contact the company for a refund. Have a photo of the power bank and severed power cord. The company also requests the name and date of the photo written in permanent marker above the label.
For questions about the recall or the refund or to contact Charmast, either go to the recall section of the company website, email rcus@charmast.com, or call 929-636-0293, Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Eastern time.
