Over one million Igloo coolers recalled after broken fingers and fingertip amputations
Taking six-packs to the beach shouldn’t mean returning with less than a 10-pack of fingers, which is why Igloo recalled about 1.1 million 90 Qt. Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
The problem, according to Thursday’s U.S. Consumer Product Commission recall notice: “The tow handle can pinch consumers’ fingertips against the cooler, posing fingertip amputation and crushing hazards.”
In fact, Igloo knows of 12 fingertip injuries, “including fingertip amputations, bone fractures, and lacerations,” the recall notice stated.
The recalled coolers were sold from January 2019 until January 2025 at Dick’s, Target, Costco, Amazon.com, the Igloo company website and other brick-and-mortar or online stores.
The last manufacturing run was January 2024. You can find the manufacturing date on the bottom of the cooler in a dial-like design with two numbers indicating the year and an arrow indicating the month.
To check if your cooler is among the numerous models and date codes, consult the list in the recall notice or go to Igloo’s recall website.
Igloo is offering replacement of the tow handle. Contact the company online through the recall website, by phone at 888-943-5182, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern time, or by emailing igloo90qt@sedgwick.com.
