Recall: Taco dinners from Aldi and Giant stores in Florida and 26 other states

People expect taco seasoning, not cocoa mix, with their taco dinner kits. But taste isn’t why this mix-up caused taco dinner kits to be recalled from Aldi stores and Giant stores in 27 states and the District of Columbia.

As the recall notice from manufacturer Teasdale Foods explains, one lot each of Casa Mamita Soft Taco Dinner Kit and Giant Crunchy Dinner Kit had “cocoa mix packets containing milk instead of taco seasoning packets and were distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of milk.”

That’s a possibly major problem for people living with a milk allergy.

“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” the recall notice states.

They went to Aldi, Giant and Martin’s stores in Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky, Georgia, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Mississippi, Alabama, Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Delaware, Iowa, Indiana, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Virginia, Vermont, Wisconsin and West Virginia.

“Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by mislabeling of the taco seasoning packets by the third party that provides the seasoning,” said Carrollton, Texas-based Teasdale.
