Sheriff lifts final evacuation orders in Merced County due to storm, flooding

All Merced County residents are allowed to return to their homes as the final flood evacuation warnings have been lifted.

Sheriff Vern Warnke lifted the final warnings on Tuesday, according to a news release from the county.

There are still some roads that remain closed due to the recent storms. Those can be viewed on the county’s Perimeter Platform: app.perimeterplatform.com.

“While most of the storm system has moved through our area, the saturated ground will now lead to dense fog in the coming days,” said Merced County spokesperson Mike North. “The public is asked to exercise caution when traveling.”

The Merced County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) remains activated and will now be shifting to recovery as the storm system subsides, according to North.

EOC partners are working with Cal OES, FEMA and local partnering agencies as they work to provide assistance to affected members of the community. More information on how residents can best receive assistance will be made available soon, the county said.

Sandbags will remain available to residents in Merced County. Visit countyofmerced.com/sandbags for more information.

The Merced County Flood Hotline is also still active at 209-385-7563.
