Strong storm to roll through Merced for Christmas. What weather service says
If you’ve been dreaming of a wet Christmas, this is your year.
The National Weather Service is predicting a short but powerful storm will move into Merced on Tuesday night and continue until late Friday.
The storm could bring enough precipitation that the NWS in Hanford has issued a flood warning for Merced County.
Here’s what each day could bring, according to the latest forecast:
- Wednesday, Christmas Eve: Merced will see showers and a possible thunderstorm, with wind gusts up to 25 mph. Rainfall could be from a quarter to half inch.
- Thursday, Christmas Day: Merced likely see rain before 1 p.m. and then a possible thunderstorm after that, with wind gusts up to 35 mph. Rainfall could total from a half to three-quarters of an inch.
- Friday: Showers and a possible a thunderstorm before 10 p.m., then rain after that. Wind gusts could reach 30 mph. Precipitation is predicted from a 10th to a quarter inch.
Saturday and Sunday are expected to be mostly sunny, with highs near 47 degrees.
