Merced to see more rain for New Year’s celebrations. Here’s what to expect
Merced County saw rain for Christmas, and now it appears it’ll be a wet New Year’s Day, too.
The National Weather Service says rain is likely to move into the area Wednesday evening and stay until at least Saturday.
Here’s a look at the forecast for New Year’s Eve through Sunday:
- Wednesday: Rain is likely, mainly after 4 p.m., making for wet driving conditions on New Year’s Eve.
- Thursday: Rain expected on New Year’s Day, with a quarter inch possible.
- Friday: Rain likely before 4 p.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after that. A quarter inch of rain or even more if there are thunderstorms.
- Saturday: There’s a 50% percent chance of rain, with wind gusts as high as 15 mph.
- Sunday: There’s a 50% percent chance of rain.
More dense fog in Merced County
Meanwhile, on Monday, the National Weather Service in Hanford released an updated dense fog advisory for Merced County in effect until 11 a.m.
The NWS says to prepare for “visibility one-quarter mile or less in dense fog.” “
Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous, the NWS says. “If driving, slow down, use your headlights, and leave plenty of distance ahead of you.”
