The NWS Eureka CA released a heat advisory at 2:07 p.m. on Friday valid from Saturday 11 a.m. until Tuesday 10 p.m. for Interior Del Norte.
The NWS informs, "High temperatures of 95 to 102 degrees for the warmer interior valleys. Moderate to major HeatRisk expected."
"Hot temperatures may cause heat illnesses especially for those without cooling or hydration," describes the NWS.
This advisory is in effect until Tuesday at 10 p.m.
During heat waves, consider the following tips from the NWS
- Stay hydrated: Keep yourself well-hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids.
- Seek shelter: Stay indoors in an air-conditioned room to keep cool.
- Avoid direct sun exposure: Protect yourself and check on vulnerable relatives and neighbors.
- Child and pet safety: Never leave young children and pets unattended in vehicles, especially when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures within minutes.
- Be mindful outdoors: Take extra precautions when working or spending time outside.
- Time your activities wisely: If possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening when the heat is less intense.
- Recognize early indicators: Learn to identify the warning signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
- Stay cool with clothing: Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. In an emergency, call 911.
