Florence Lambert: Blue-collar whites coddled? Columnist out of his mind

Re “Fed up with coddling blue-collar whites” (Page 7A, Sept. 5): Ruben Navarrette, how dare you assume to know the plight of the Americans in the United States of America and trivialize the blight of the American people trying to make a living in the Rust Belt? How dare you make a statement that America is wasted on Americans? Have your chauffeur drive your car to Merced; I’ll show you which demographic is unwilling to work and has a sickening sense of entitlement. It’s not blue-collar whites.

As a hard-working, working-class white person, I do feel hopeless. I do feel the American Dream no longer applies to me. That dream was crushed by the uncontrollable costs of supporting illegal immigrants who demand – and get – free education, housing, food and the list is too long to write. The tax dollars I pay, and have always paid since 1959, pay for these items that I have worked all my life to buy. If, as you stated, African-Americans and Latinos call this “normal,” maybe you can give them your lecture “You can do anything if you’re willing to work hard.”

I’m ashamed of the Sun-Star for finding your sickening article newsworthy enough to print.

Florence Lambert, Merced
