Pat Trieweiler: Standing for anthem honors law enforcement
When I stand for the national anthem at sporting events, my thoughts for our local police, highway patrol and sheriff’s department are ones of appreciation and gratitude. Not only does our local law enforcement fight crime, but they are there to help when a loved one is in need and facing an emergency. I can think of the numerous times CHP officers have pulled people from burning cars and gotten them to safety. I remember many times when officers would serve as lead cars in heavy valley fog when I couldn’t see 20 feet ahead of me. Every year they face dangerous situations on our highways to keep me safe. Our local law enforcement protects and serves.
I value and honor those who are willing to step forward and risk their lives on my behalf. I will continue to stand up, take off my hat and put my right hand over my heart each time the anthem is played. I believe that no other action is necessary when I hear that beautiful music.
