Art Sortini: Nukes in Middle East too scary; get rid of all of them

Here we go around again in the Middle East. As horrible as war can be, nuclear arms in the wrong hands is utterly terrifying. You just want to tell Iran that the idea of ISIS coming to power is terrifying. It’s conceivable that some guy would then be trying to “save the universe” by nuking Israel.

How do we keep Iran from getting nuclear weapons? How about no nuclear weapons being allowed in the Middle East? That might be the answer. In a tactical military context, a nuclear weapon is useless. If one were used, the civilian casualty rate would be 99.6 percent. That’s not a very smart bomb. So what can you do with a nuke? Use it to get rid of other nukes.

Iran shall not ever be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons. Israel will slowly, in a documented fashion, phase out all its nuclear weapons. Every five years, Israel takes out the warheads of a number of weapons; five years later, entire missiles are taken apart. Then more missiles in five years, etc, etc. Nuclear scientists of the world community could inspect to assure all nuclear power is for energy. The U.S. shares all cutting-edge future energy development with their Iranian brothers.

Let all the world pray for peace in the Middle East.

Art Sortini, Merced
