Connie Corvelo: By the light of burning homes, we saw consequences of illegal fireworks
Every 4th of July, residents of Atwater have to deal with illegal fireworks being lighted long before the wonderfully planned and safe fireworks program put together for everyone to enjoy begins at Castle.
Every year we say, “Dear God, what would happen if one of these illegal fireworks ever landed on a home”? Now we know!
Two homes on my street, Fay Drive, were set on fire when one of these illegal fireworks landed between the homes (“Fourth of July was busy night for Merced fire departments” Page 3A, July 7). To see your friends and neighbors’ homes engulfed in flames was horrifying and heartbreaking. It was midnight and everyone was sleeping. What if their dogs hadn’t barked.
We know many of these illegal fireworks are set off by “adults.” What were you thinking? How irresponsible are you that you wouldn’t even wonder where it would land!
We know some of these “adults” are in our neighborhood. Was it you? Was it another neighbor? Before you ever light another illegal fireworks, think of the consequences!
