Pat Trieweiler: We need bigger, better solutions to water crisis
Assemblyman Adam Grey and Senator Anthony Cannella deserve praise for their efforts in dealing with our water crisis. Those efforts do not go unappreciated. I am asking them to “think outside of the box” in finding solutions to bring water to the valley.
Could our state build desalination plants on the coast and bring water into the valley for agriculture and for our cities and towns? Countries like Dubai and Israel have found creative ways to bring fresh water to their countries, why can’t we?
What was once considered “not cost effective” may be now. With the technology and brains that this state has, the costs to do desalination would decrease over time as efficiency improves. Afterall, necessity is the mother of invention.
When I hear one of our supervisors say they “are scared as hell” and a NASA water scientist saying we are at risk of losing our water altogether, it’s time to find new solutions. If we can put a man on the moon, we can surely find proactive ways to battle this crisis. As a wise gentleman (Franklin D. Roosevelt) once said, “the only thing we have to fear, is fear itself.”
