Steve M. Tietjen: It was my honor to be in your Fourth of July Parade
In December, 2016, I was administered the oath of office and became the 29th Merced County Superintendent of Schools. I am proud to serve the students and communities of Merced County.
Prior to taking the oath, I served as the deputy superintendent and it opened my eyes to the scope of the Superintendent position. At the time budgets, Local Control educational plans, personnel issues and providing services to the 20 school districts in the county was my focus. I didn’t think about riding in a Fourth of July parade, but that is exactly what I did in two communities, Atwater and Gustine.
I want to salute both communities for celebrating the birth of our nation; it is evident that the thousands of people coming to view the parades and participate in the activities share my pride to be an American. Yes, as a country, many places need improvement, but we still live in the greatest country in the world. My hat is off to Atwater and Gustine for throwing a great Fourth of July party and sharing their pride with the rest of us. Great job and thank you for allowing me to be in your parade!
