John and Barbara Riis-Christensen: Government control of medicine will lead to more Charlie Gards
We are witnessing the control of healthcare by the government. The parents of baby Charlie Gard, an 11-month-old who suffers from a rare genetic disorder, want to take their son to America to undergo a form of experimental therapy that a doctor has already agreed to administer. They have raised over $1.6 million to fund this effort to save their child’s life. The European Court of Human Rights ruled the parents should be barred from taking their son to the United States for treatment.
This is what happens with socialized medicine. This is what happens when parental rights are subordinate to the state. This is what happens when human life is not considered sacred.
