Mary L. Ochoa: Many ideas to fight drought and waste

On March 21 I listened to a group of men on KYOS. They were concerned about water usage, suggesting Merced Community College could help by not watering the grounds and possibly other schools also. Everyone should do their part, not just homeowners.

We could all really make savings in water and money. What about the mall? They could close every afternoon from 1-5 p.m. and turn off the air conditioning. There could be two shifts for shopping. The morning shoppers, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., four hours, and evening shoppers, 5-9 p.m., four hours. Take your pick; are you a morning or evening person? The drugstore could stay open as usual. Just think you could go home, spend time with family, take a siesta or shop in the evening and eat at the mall. We’d all be doing our part to help save water and energy.

Not letting weeds take over the school grounds and water run into the gutters seems small compared to what we all could do.
