Gary Petty: Merced County needs to get its focus off the shoulders

Once again I see Merced County is working on the roads near Hilmar; unfortunately the work being done does nothing for the traveling public. Money and time is being spent to dress out the road shoulders where people normally don’t drive. It’s hard to understand why the county won’t put out these efforts in areas that benefit the traveling public. For example, drive down American Avenue from Griffith toward Hilmar, and it won’t take long to see that pothole patching isn’t working. The road is way beyond patching. I wish the county would focus more on the roadway than they do on the shoulders
