Robert Burgess: Apple is a perfect for Castle Airport and its old dormitories
Invite Apple to invest money at Castle Airport. Merced County supervisors want manufacturing at Castle and Apple is the perfect choice. Apple has announced its intention to follow the guidance of President Trump and bring manufacturing operations in foreign countries back to America.
Apple wants to bring back $350 billion in manufacturing investments and 20,000 jobs. Apple is the perfect choice for Castle because they will use American material to build products for the American market. Real estate is overpriced in Silicon Valley, where it is in short supply and land is reasonably priced in the Central Valley. Big investors want to buy land rather than lease it, so let’s be prepared to sell Apple up to 2,000 acres and all the buildings they want. We can even provide them with housing for some of their employees by selling them vacant apartments and dormitories on the old main base. We can easily re-zone commercial to residential.
Most of these buildings were constructed in the 1980s and early ’90s, long after builders stopped using asbestos and lead paint, so remodeling should not be difficult.
