Carol Milam: No one has guts to tell Emperor Trump he’s wearing no clothes
President Trump reminds me of the fairytale about a king who walked around without any clothes. All the king’s courtiers were too afraid to tell the king he was naked and went along with his delusion in order to curry favor. President Trump is as deluded as a fox, but he’s surrounded by Republican sycophants who are so desperate for power they subvert the country’s welfare.
Trump is a chronic liar who uses distractions to divert attention from his misdeeds and lies. There must be something tremendously revelatory in his tax returns; why else would he persist in lying about them being “audited” and then try to let the matter fade into obscurity? He insists too loudly and too often that Russian collusion is a “witch hunt.”
Another major destructive diversion is his poisonous labeling of anything he doesn’t like as “fake news,” and his constant attacks on the media. While reading Ron Chernow’s biography of U.S.Grant, I came across this quote from Shakespeare’s Richard III that seems as timely now as it was hundreds of years ago: “The lust for power in political minds is the strongest passion of life, and impels ambitious men to deeds of infamy.”
