Wayne Wallace: Atwater councilmembers serve the people, not themselves

Just a word to the City Council of Atwater: Learn what being a city councilperson means. A book could be written on this subject. You work for the people, not for yourself or interests you might have. When you say something up front and then defend what you have said, we the people see the error of your ways. Reference the recent meetings not made public until much later.

One councilperson has stated her husband is a policeman. Anything she has to do with the police department she should back away and not have anything to say about it, especially in the case of the city manager having been his boss in Ceres.

I would like the city of Merced to offer former Police Chief Sammy Joseph the chief’s job there. He has just returned from special training, which the Atwater police department paid for. Art DeWerk let the tail wag the dog. Two weeks is a very short time to judge an employee, especially one who received good evaluations.

When Chief Joseph is not liked, he must be doing a good job.
