Let those lush lawns fade

With the importance of the drought in California I am surprised to see so many businesses and local government sites still watering their grass. As a concerned resident I have made huge changes in the way we water outside. I am shocked to see the colleges and schools still watering on a regular basis with water going into the gutters.

I also don’t understand why they need such green grass. Businesses still have bright green grass. I feel that schools and business and government agencies should be the first to show a strong example to the residents of Merced. By allowing their grass to go yellow, like we are all asked to do, would be a sign to others of the drastic situation. Driving to work I even see homes with the brightest green grass. Isn’t that a sign to the city that people are still overwatering?

When California is out of water it is going to be too late to decide it’s important. Please, Merced, take this seriously! Letting your lawns fade a little goes a long way in saving water.
