Kay Alcorn: Making Merced a better place to live
I am a member of the Downtown Neighborhood Association and want to thank my neighbor, Dave Pacheco, for cleaning the entire alley behind our homes in “Spaghetti Acres” (West Merced). This is just one example of what people are doing on their own to keep Merced a pleasant place to live. Another group, “Merced Walks” pulls out garbage from the creeks every Saturday morning. They have pulled out furniture and shopping carts and everything else you can imagine since 2011, all on their own. Other people have shared that they pick up trash around their neighborhoods.
Our group, DNA, is a grassroots organization working to pull people together to advocate, beatify and bring our community together. Our first project targets downtown Merced from 16th to Bear Creek, and Glen Avenue to West Bear Creek. But our goal is to reach all neighborhoods.
We are planning neighborhood meetings and will be organizing events on a regular basis. They will be forums to get to know your neighbors and share your concerns.
To sign up to become a member, contact dnamerced@gmail.com. We have wealth of talent and passion in this community and we are committed to making Merced a desirable and safe place to live.
