Jack Mobley: Recognizing significance of D-Day more important than Jenner’s gender

June 6, 1944, D-Day, is one of the most important dates in our county’s history and yet there was no mention of it in your June 6 newspaper. Certainly the fair coming to town is worthy of coverage, but surely it could have shared some of its front-page space with a mention of D-Day.

We’re gradually losing our history as it is being rewritten, or not mentioned at all, to suit different ideologies. Retelling the truth of the sacrifices made by our military to secure our freedoms is more than important. There have been, and there will be, times when our country and our way of life have been, and will have to be, protected from evil. We can’t afford to forget or forget to be prepared. Surely perpetuating that knowledge is more important, for at least one day, than the fair coming to town or Bruce Jenner’s sex change.
