Robert Weimer: Make sure your pump is low enough, or it will be ruined

This letter is probably more of a public service announcement. As the drought continues and the weather warms, the demand on groundwater increases and we are seeing water tables plunge. Homeowners with domestic wells containing plastic need to be cautious that their pumps are set at depths that will remain submerged during operation.

A pump operating without water creates heat and distorts the plastic well casing, many time rendering the well useless. Then two things occur: Major cost to reconstruct a well (thousands of dollars) and an undetermined wait for a capable driller to arrive.

This is occurring every day. There are literally thousands of plastic wells in the region and they are functional part of our daily lives. Protect your investment. Check your pump setting in regards to the water level in your well.
