David J. Silva: California’s special gas a windfall for oil companies, the poor
Thousands of years ago, much of the world was experiencing an ice age. Glaciers extended from Canada to the midwestern United States; Chicago was covered by about 1,000 feet of ice and the ocean level was just half what it is now. Because of global warming, the ice melted and the oceans rose to there present depth.
Now we all know that global warming is caused by humans, so I guess those stone-age people just didn’t have the technology that we now have to control their carbon monoxide spewing vehicles and their coal-burning electrical plants, thus melting the ice. We in California are lucky to have Jerry Brown and the Democrat legislature. They have mandated the special blend of fuel used only in California. It costs 90 cents more per gallon than the average fuel in the U.S., but it gives the oil companies and refineries more money and the state collects more taxes. It costs the consumer about $1 billion a year more for fuel. It also gives the state more tax money to give to the poor and those who don’t want to work.
